July 3, 2012 - Phoenix, Arizona - By the time 13-year old Lindsey, an Ahwatukee Foothills teenager discovered that someone took a private video of her in a public restroom without her knowledge it was too late. Within hours it began to circulate amongst her peers eventually reaching another school within the same day and causing Lindsey a great deal of humiliation. When the rumors began to reach other students and spread like a wildfire, Lindsey became the target of malicious teasing by text messages as well as social media.
That’s when Lindsey's Mother took a proactive approach and sought help for Lindsey. “When I first met Karen there was no question in my mind that she was on a mission to find out how to best help her daughter.” said Tamicia Currie, Executive Director of I Will Not Bully, Inc. I Will Not Bully, Inc. is a non-profit organization providing educational tools and resources for bullying-prevention. “We knew that we needed to reach out to the community to determine how much help was needed with bullying. What we didn’t know is that in reaching out we would discover a valuable tool to help victims heal.” She offered. Currie is talking about Letters to a Bully, the newly implemented resource website the organization launched to transition victims of bullying into advocates.
The organization believes that a child's greatest defense against bullying is a parent and that Karen's commitment to her daughter was the key ingredient that helped Lindsey make it through such a tough time. For more information, to write a letter or read a letter, visit www.letterstoabully.org. |
